Online Video Guitar Lessons - 5 Advantages

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Taking guitar lessons these days can mean one of several things: you can take a class, you can have a private tutor, you can learn in an informal way from a friend or family members. These aren't the only ways to go about it, because you can also learn online. If you decide to use the internet for instruction, here are 5 advantages of online video guitar lessons.

1. Go at your own speed

Everybody will learn guitar at their own pace. Naturally gifted people will gallop past the rest in the early chords, still others will struggle for a couple of months. When you take lessons online, you won't have to worry if you're slowing down the pace of the class, or if you're letting down your instructor. Taking video lessons will demand self-discipline, but you go at your own speed.

2. Learn whatever style you like

When you take traditional lessons from an instructor or class, you won't always get to choose the music style. Most often, you will be taught the chords and other basics you need to the various styles, but you're stuck with someone else's curriculum. Taking online video guitar lessons, you get to choose what style of music you learn with.

3. Plenty of lessons

You will find nothing more boring that using the same book over and over again, re-learning the same material until you've lost interest. Because of the variety online, you can choose your lessons in the style that you want. Doing so will enable you to keep the learning experience fresh and motivate you to continue.

4. Learn on your schedule

Some may find that it's hard to set aside certain hours of their day simply to take a class of instruction. Owing to the nature of the internet, you can take a course online any time of day, any day of the year. You decide if you want to skip a day for vacation, or if you have other plans, and then pick back up where you left off.

5. Visual learning

Often, the best method to learn a new skill is to play "monkey-see, monkey-do." It's easy to stop a video and rewind or skip ahead, in order to pick and choose where you need the most help. That is the versatility of online video guitar lessons, so you can watch and learn proper techniques to play the best way.

Online video guitar lessons prove that anyone can learn or improve their playing skill right from their own home. You can find all sorts of lessons in various difficulty levels, so you won't get bored and you can confidently learn how to play guitar.

Save Money on Guitar Lessons

Image : http://www.flickr.com

A guitar teacher can cost around $50 per lesson. And it takes a lot of lessons to get very good at playing the guitar. You could easily end up spending thousands of dollars on a guitar teacher. If you don't have thousands of dollars then you want to keep on reading to find out what the much less expensive alternative is.

The best (and least expensive) alternative to a private guitar coach are guitar lessons that you can download online instantly at any time of day, any day of the year. Why are they so good? Well for one thing they are far less expensive. You may pay less for hundreds of online guitar lessons then you would for a single lesson from a guitar teacher. That's certainly a very good reason! But it's not the only one.

Another great reason to go with online guitar lessons is that they are available to you any time you want to work with them. With a guitar teacher you'll have to work around their schedule. If you want to learn something new, you may not be able to right away. That's not true when you have all of the lessons you need at your fingertips.

Perhaps the best reason to learn to play the guitar with online guitar lessons is that they are highly effective. In fact in some ways they may be far more effective than a personal guitar teacher. Why? Because some people won't teach you the right methods. Or maybe they will only want to teach you to play in their style, even if it's not your style.

But even better than all of that is that the best online lessons can be tried out without any risk because they include a full money back refund period. So you can try it out and see if it works for you. If it doesn't, for any reason, then you can easily just get all of your money back.

Internet Guitar Lessons and How They Can Help

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Internet guitar lessons are one of the most helpful things a budding guitarist could wish for. Not only will you find guitar teachers of varying standard but you will also find teachers that specialise in various styles making the learning process a lot more productive. If you are interested in getting internet guitar lessons then three things you should consider is finding a place that has as many different tutors as possible, finding somewhere that boasts a large community with good testimonials, finding somewhere that doesn't charge per lesson.

User forums and the importance of networking

You may think that finding other people to talk to about guitar playing online may be a waste of time but networking is one of the most important part about making it big in the music industry. Often its who you know not what you know and you never know who could be on the other side of that email. User forums also provide some excellent knowledge on guitar playing that you may not ever find anywhere else. A good forum will teach you on its own without you even noticing.

How many tutors you need

There is no right or wrong way to decide if a website will be worth it or not, just personal preference, and in my opinion you need to getting internet guitar lessons from as many different tutors as possible. Most good guitar tutors will specialise in only one, maybe two styles of guitar playing and if you find a website that has videos and tuition material from various different teachers then you will be getting the best lessons for whatever style you want to learn that day.

Finding the right price

I just want you to think about this for a second. A guitar lesson in your house or at a studio from a seasoned professional would be on average of $30 per hour, and you would get this once per week at a maximum. Online guitar lessons will cost anything from $30-$100 for a subscription service. It may seem like more but that will be for lifetime membership and an infinite amount of lesson material. Its just up to you to decide what approach you want to take.

Finding good internet guitar lessons is by no means the key to becoming a great guitarist. It can just give you a little boost in the right direction. To truly master the instrument you need to practice on a daily basis without fail and try and get as much experience as you can in front of a live audience. Jimi Hendrix didn't become a legend by just sitting in front of a home computer all day (not that they had them in the 60's).

Rock Guitar Lessons

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The subject of rock guitar lessons can mean a lot of things and cover lessons based more in blues right through to metal guitar. In its heart however it sits firmly in between those two styles of guitar playing and takes influence from both of them. This is why there's quite a lot of space to find yourself in rock guitar and develop your own style of expression.

In case you didn't realize, that's what it's really all about. Technical exercises, scales, theory and playing fast or sweep picking are all fine but they mean nothing without some kind of heart felt musical expression put behind them. Simply playing fast becomes very boring to audiences very quickly.

Some players find playing fast and in a technical way relatively easy while others kill themselves trying to do the same thing. Beware of this as some players are naturally inclined to play with more soul and feeling than pure speed, try to find what kind of player you are naturally and avoid forcing yourself into things which don't really fit you. You'll end up having a much more satisfying and fun time learning to play rock guitar that way.

It's possible to find rock guitar tuition both online and from local teachers in your area. If you are able to find a good teacher locally then this is probably your best option and will improve you the fastest. Ideally if you can combine learning electric guitar both online and from classes you'll be able to enjoy the best of both worlds.

Knowing Your Guitar Lesson 1

Image : http://www.flickr.com

As a budding guitarist it is important that you learn every facet of your new chosen hobby and the most important 1st step is almost always overlooked.
You must know the parts of your guitar you will need to be very familiar with the different names given to the parts of your guitar.

Although there are many different types of guitars (acoustic, classical and electric etc) they have many things in common.

Starting at the top of the guitar you can see the headstock; it connects to the neck. The tuners are located on the headstock and you will use those to alter the pitch of your strings on your guitar.

The nut is located where the headstock and the neck meet. The 'nut' is a small strip of bone or plastic with grooves to guide the strings into the tuners.

The neck of your guitar is where you will focus alot of your time on, as you will have your fingers on various places on the neck in order to make different notes.

As we go down the guitar you can see the neck joins onto the body of the guitar. The body of the guitar can vary greatly, an acoustic and classical guitar have a hollow body and a sound hole, it's made that way to project the sound. Electric guitars are usually solid so they don't have a sound hole instead they have pickups where the sound hole is usually found.

The strings of the guitar come down from the tuners, over the nut, down the neck, over the body and over the sound hole down to the bridge where they are anchored.

Looking at the neck of your guitar you will see thin metal strips going across the entire surface, these are called frets
The first fret is the area between the nut and the first metal strip, the 2nd fret is the space between the first and second strip of metal and it continues down, you get the idea!

Guitar Lesson Reviews - Free Beginner Guitar Lessons

Image : http://www.flickr.com

This article is going to give you some reviews of a few of the guitar courses that you can buy over the internet plus some info on how you can get access to free beginner guitar lesson videos to get an idea of what they have to offer. The courses I have picked for this list are Amazing Guitar Secrets, Jamplay, Next Level Guitar and Guitar Tricks. The reason I have chosen these courses is that they each make heavy use of video as a guitar teaching method plus they make a point of giving away videos as samples of their guitar lesson courses.

The beginner guitar lesson course that has been around the longest is Guitar Tricks which was started in 1998. Since then thousands of lessons have been posted on their site from over forty guitar teachers. You get access to all these video guitar lessons by registering with them and paying a monthly fee. Guitar Tricks will give you twenty-four free lessons just for registering with their site.

Another course of beginner guitar lessons that features free videos is Amazing Guitar Secrets. This course was created by a seasoned guitar teacher named Dan Denley who also presents all the guitar video lessons. The course not only features videos but audio tracks plus ten books. You can view the material on the web or by having it all delivered to your door. Dan Denley runs a blog which features sample videos or video guitar lessons specially made to present his course plus you can read comments by readers of the blog. Just do a Google blog search for Dan Denley.

Jamplay is another beginner guitar lesson course that you can access by paying a monthly fee. The videos are presented in an informal, friendly way but at the same time are packed with solid information. The guitar teachers are specialists in every genre you can name, even Hawaiian slack key and classical guitar. The best thing about Jamplay and Guitar Tricks is that the lessons are being updated all the time so you are not stuck with one bunch of teaching material forever. Jamplay have a range of free lessons on their website plus full details of how they teach guitar and who their teachers are.

Now for Next Level Guitar. If you have not seen examples of the other video guitar lesson courses on YouTube, you have probably noticed the ones from Next Level Guitar. Many of them are presented by an amiable dude in a backwards baseball cap who lives and breathes guitar. They have well over three hundred lessons on their website divided up into genres and skill levels. They also have a forum which will give you an avenue for getting answers to any questions you might have. As for free video lessons for beginners, there are aver forty of them for you to check out so even if you do not join, you will get some valuable material for your next guitar practice session.

Electric Guitar Lessons Review - Metal Method's Innovative DVDs For Learning To Solo

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Who Will Benefit Most From This Program:

This instructional course is designed for anyone interested in learning to improvising lead solos on the electric guitar. While the emphasis is on Heavy Metal music, the fundamental techniques and theory are common and essential to Hard Rock, Classic Rock and Blues Rock.

About The Author

Doug Marks has been playing in bands, recording and teaching for over 23 years. (Hawk is the name of his current band.) His Metal Method Video Guitar Lesson Program was born in 1982 as a result of meeting the needs of his guitar students.

The author freely admits that he was never one of these naturally talented guitarists that could hear a song and instantly play it by ear. In his own learning process he required lots of detailed explanations which eventually turned into the lessons that formed this instructional course.

The Quality Of The Videos

The quality of the video production on each DVD is excellent. The lighting is well done which is absolutely necessary to view the details. The close up shots, which often make or break guitar lesson DVDs are especially well done. They show very clear video of the left hand and the right hand super imposed in the same frame.

The Physical Parts

Plastic DVD Organizer Case,

6 Lesson DVDs ( up to 12 available for more advanced learning ).

Animated, Play along tabs that give you timing information and play back speed control.

DVD6 - Stage Six: Music Theory

The Negatives:

The written support materials are located on the DVDs and need to be printed for convenience sake. When I printed them from my home computer, (it took about 15 minutes), I discovered that they were not labeled with the stage, chapter and disc with which they belonged. Doug did mention on the phone that he is currently working to improve the support materials.

Also, the course would benefit from more topical details on the video titles. It can be a little confusing if you wish to return to a specific lesson.

Fortunately, none of these things effect the quality of the lessons. They are just minor irritations.

The Positives: What Makes Metal Method Unique?

The Author: does an excellent job of breaking complicated tasks down into learnable bits.

Animated Tabs: add timing information and audio which makes the lessons so much more understandable. As a result this speeds the learning process. Also, as a direct result of student feedback, Doug Marks has added special tab files that allow you to control how fast the tabs play.

Continually Improved and updated lessons for over 20 years.

The free internet guitar forum has a high rate of participation with well over 1000 entries. This means that you have a much greater chance at connecting with someone that can answer your questions.

Price and Payment: This has got to be one of the most affordable complete guitar lesson programs I have ever seen. Not only is the price much lower than the competition but you can buy just one DVD at a time.

Guided Practice Sessions: The built in structure of the animated practice sessions prevents wasting time. It is almost like having your teacher helping you at every practice session without the additional cost. This will greatly speed up your learning time by improving the effectiveness of your practice time. This can also eliminate some bad habits before they have a chance to form.

The Price options:

Buy only one DVD at a time for $14.95 each plus $8.95 shipping

Buy 2 of the 6 DVDs at the same time for a total of $24.95 + Shipping (save $4.95)

Buy all 6 of the DVDs at the same time for a total of $69.70 + shipping (Save $20)

The Cost analysis:

Metal Method Video Guitar Lessons contains the equivalent of about 6 months worth of guitar lessons if you were to space them out as if you were taking weekly lessons from a local guitar instructor. A local instructor typically will charge anywhere from $20 to $50 per lesson. Your minimum cost at only $20 per lesson for 6 months would be at least $520.

The choice comes down to:

- The Complete Metal Method DVD Program at $69.70 to $89.70 (depending on how many lesson you purchase at a time).

- or... a local instructor at $520.

Support:

Metal method offers email, phone, mail and a student forum to answer questions. They also offer a fairly exhaustive frequently asked questions (FAQ) section at their website for quick reference.

Shipping:

Metal Method DVDs are shipped world wide. The DVDs are also compatible for playback in all countries. The set I ordered had to travel across the United States and I received it in about 4 or 5 days.

Guarantee:

Metal Method Video Guitar Lessons comes with a 60 day, unconditional, money-back guarantee.

The Bottom Line:

I have reviewed so many guitar lesson programs that show some good potential but they always have one or two fatal flaws. Metal Method Video Guitar Lessons is solid all the way through. It is one of the most thorough, polished and well thought out programs I have ever seen. It is obvious that Doug Marks has actually been listening to his students for over 23 years and using that feedback to continually refine each element of his lessons.

If you are serious about learning the electric guitar this DVD series is a must have. According to the Metal Method website they were picked by Guitar World Magazine for being essential guitar DVDs and I could not agree more.

The Left Handed Electric Guitar

Image : http://www.flickr.com

I wanted to talk to you about the electric guitar. In fact, I wanted to talk to you about the left handed version of this musical device because it isn't as popular as most people seem to think. I remember when I first started out learning to play the guitar, I had to get a regular right handed one. This made it twice as difficult, but that's what I needed. My teacher that was supposed to make me better could only teach me if I used a right handed one. This was a nightmare for me. This is just like trying to force people to write with their wrong hand. It's just so unnatural and frustrating to do.

The main reason that it is hard to find this type of guitar is that lesson plans, teachers, exercises are all designed for right handed people. They're they ones that dominate this niche of the market and hence the market bends to their needs. If you've been looking for a left handed electric guitar you've probably struggled to find them. You may have seen inflated prices if you did manage to locate one. It's literally a racket for a lot of people.

The reason that this type of guitar is harder to learn on is due to the fact that everything is backwards for all the material. Some songs have pretty complex notes that need to be played and everything is mirrored. If you were to view a right handed guitar in the mirror, that's what it is like for a lot of teachers that are trying to show you. Everything is exceptionally frustrating for them too, so this is a main reason you're not going to find the left handed electric guitar anywhere.

The good news is that you can usually pick up custom versions of this if you're willing to pay. Private guitar shops that will build you one that will fit your needs, but this is pretty costly. You can also refurbish your guitar yourself and turn it into a left handed one. This can be a bit awkward and it isn't an easy task to achieve.
